35日目「関係副詞」を自動化しよう！
「Friday is the day when we eat out for dinner.」
「Freday is the day we eat out for dinner. 」
上記２つの英文は、ほぼ同じなのですが、関係副詞の「when」が省略されているとのこと。
「where」以外の関係副詞は、省略されることが多いそうです。
🍀関係副詞とは？
関係副詞（Relative Adverbs）は、2つの文をつなげるときに使われる語で、「先行詞（場所・時間・理由）＋文」の形をとります。関係副詞は、場所・時間・理由を表すときに登場し、接続詞と副詞の役割を兼ねます。
🧩代表的な関係副詞とその意味

※ how は名詞を伴わずに使われるのが一般的です（→ the way の代わりになる）。
📌使い方のルール
- 先行詞（名詞）＋関係副詞＋主語＋動詞
- 関係副詞は「接続詞」＋「文中の副詞（場所・時間・理由など）」の役割を持ち、前置詞＋関係代名詞の代わりになることもあります。
❗間違いやすいポイントと注意点
① 関係副詞と関係代名詞の混同
- 関係副詞は「副詞の役割」、関係代名詞は「主語や目的語の役割」
- ✅ This is the place where he works.（彼が働いている場所）→ 場所を修飾 → 関係副詞
- ❌ This is the place which he works. → ✖「which」は場所を示す副詞ではない
🔍ヒント：関係副詞のあとに主語＋動詞がくる → 自然な文になるか確認
② “the reason why” は重複表現？
- 一部では「the reason why」は「whyが重複している」と言われますが、自然な英語表現として一般的です。
- ✅ The reason why I came here is to see you.
- ほかにも “the reason that” や “the reason” だけでも OK。
- ✅ The reason I came here is to see you.
- ❌ I don’t know the reason because he left. → because は使えません
③ “when” と “which” の混乱
- 時間を表す先行詞（day, time, momentなど）のあと、when の代わりに which ＋前置詞 を使うことも可能。
- ✅ I remember the day when we first met.
- ✅ I remember the day on which we first met.
- ❌ I remember the day which we first met. → on が必要
④ “how” を the way と一緒に使ってしまう
- ✅ I like the way you talk.
- ✅ I like how you talk.
- ❌ I like the way how you talk. → 重複表現で不自然

- 日本語の例文を英訳する練習
- 例：「彼が生まれた町に行った」→ I went to the town where he was born.
- 穴埋め練習で形を覚える
- I’ll never forget the day ___ we first met.（正解：when）
- 関係副詞を使った例文を丸ごと暗記する
- “This is the place where I met my best friend.”
